The first significant discovery, that had drawn an attention to the Slavic-Russian antiquity, was a treasure, found on a mound "Old/Antique Ryazan" in 1822. During the plowing, the farmer Ermolaev found gold plates, medallions and beads, which have received a name "Ryazan barmy " in the scientific literature. The treasures were sent to St. Petersburg, and after some time had passed, Ermolaev received an imperial decree and 10 thousand rubles as a reward for the find.
