Panda, it – bamboo bear, is a mammal of the raccoon family. Only species of the genus. In appearance resembles a bear, but what bear it is distinguished by a different structure of the teeth and relatively long tail. This bear-like animal a long time was considered the "great raccoon" because of the common anatomical features with a small Panda, raccoon believed unconditionally. But simple peasants of China, have long called it "white bear" or "bamboo bear" that turned out to be closer to the truth, in which scientists-taxonomy figured out not so long ago.
Pandas live in dense thickets of bamboo forests of China, the Islands of Kalimantan and Indonesia, which at the same time for these rare animals are and shelter, and the main source of food. For complete saturation of adult organism "bamboo bear", during the day it takes about eighteen pounds of young shoots and succulent stems of bamboo that chafes the animal with their jaws. This kind of food is very nutrient-poor, resulting in, all the time awake, which is from ten to twelve hours, the animal is forced to chew. In addition, food can serve as carrion, small animals and birds, which bear very rarely treats herself.
In the wild "bamboo bear" lives in solitude and only once a year ,during the mating period, occurs with a female or a male to prolong offspring. The result of which is the birth of one, rarely two, naked, blind and helpless cub. The eyes of a newborn bear open only a month later. After three weeks, Panda-baby begins to grow hair, acquiring your signature color and "points", and weighs no more than 175 grams, which is recruited rapidly and in two months reaches 3-4 kg, and to manhood – 17-160 pounds.
But living in the wild pandas there is nothing to envy: people mastering the territory produces timber concessions, which the majority of individuals in the brief three-day mating period do not have time to find their partner and remain without offspring, thereby reducing their population, which numbers approximately seven hundred individuals. Therefore, Panda has long listed in the "Red book", and every newborn is a great value and joy.
At this time, the Panda is considered a national treasure of China, a symbol of friendship and peace that the majority of individuals live under strict protection of national parks in South-Western parts of the country.
