Petrovskoe Baroque — this was the architectural style focuses on samples of Swedish, German and Dutch civil architecture.
The architecture of Peter's time is characteristic of the simplicity of bulk builds, clarity of articulation and restraint of decoration, planar treatment of the facades.
1.Peter and Paul Cathedral
The Church is elongated from West to East, the rectangular building of the "hall" type.
The exterior is austere and modest. The walls are decorated with flat columns — pilasters — and the heads of the cherubim on the window frames.
Above the roof is slender and graceful octagonal drum with narrow vertical openings. Over it — a tall, Golden crown and a thin Golden cupola. At the top there is a figure of an angel with cross in hand.
The interior of the Church divided into three naves by massive columns, painted to look like marble. In its decoration were used marble, Jasper, rhodonite. The Cathedral's floor is paved with limestone slabs.
2.The winter Palace
The building has a clear plan - similar to a square, a rectangle, complicated by large corbels at the corners. Its height emphasize two-tiered columns. Vertical partitioning of the Palace continues the statues and the vases, points the eyes in the sky.
Varied decor: mirrors, statues, fancy gilt moulding, granite column, marble.
3.Menshikov Palace
The main facade is emphasized by pilasters. Side corbels pediments ornate. The frontal zone is punctuated by a portico of wooden columns, elaborately imitating stone or marble.
The floors were revealed horizontal rods. The walls of the two upper floors were decorated with pilasters of the Corinthian order, and the bottom two were United great pilasters of the ionic order. The decoration was applied Delft tiles: they completely covered the walls and ceilings.
