Vitus Bering was born in 1681 in Denmark, Horsens, graduated from the cadet corps in Amsterdam in 1703, the same year he entered the Russian service with the rank of Lieutenant, after a trip to the East Indies, and served on the Russian Baltic fleet during the great Northern war.In 1707 was promoted to Lieutenant. In 1713 in Vyborg married Anna Christine, daughter of one of the local burghers[1].
