The population of this country is about 145 million people. The capital of the Russian Federation is Moscow. Russia is not only a very large country, but also a very diverse one.This large country borders with Finland, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Poland, Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, Azerbaijan, and North Korea. Russia also shares borders by the Bering Strait with the United States and by the Sea of Okhotsk with Japan.The biggest city of Russia is its capital Moscow. The second biggest city is Saint-Petersburg – the former capital of the country. The Russian Federation biggest cities are:Nizhniy Novgorod;Novosibirsk;Samara;Yekaterinburg;Omsk;Ufa;Kazan;Volgograd;Chelyabinsk;Rostov on Don.Most people live in cities (about 70%). The population density is about nine persons per square kilometer. Therefore the density is among the lowest in the world. In the European part of the country the population is the densest, it is centering on Saint-Petersburg and Moscow.Russia is a country with a great art history. It has produced many world-famous writers such as Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Ivan Turgenev. Many famous composers were born in Russia: Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Scriabin, Dmitri Shostakovich and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Also Russia gave many outstanding scientists to the world – Mikhail Lomonosov, Dmitry Mendeleev, Andrei Sakharov and many others were born in Russia.
