Jack, an old
sailor, (0. had spent) many years at sea before he (1. came) back to
England. One day he (2. was walking) along the country road looking for a job.
He (3. saw) a farmer (4. standing) at the door of his house.
"Will you (5.
give) me a job?" The farmer wondered if Jack (6. had done) any farm-work
before. When Jack said he (7. was) ready to do any job; the farmer said
that he (8. would help) the old sailor. He pointed to the sheep in the field
and said: "I want you (9. to bring) them all to the yard." An hour later
the farmer (10. came) into the yard. All the sheep (11. had been brought) together by
Jack. Then the farmer (12. noticed) a small rabbit among the sheep. Jack
explained to the surprised farmer: "It (13. took) me quite a lot of
time to catch that liitle animal. He (14. has given) me more trouble than all
the rest of the sheep."
