In Japan birthdays are not as big a celebration as they are in other countries. In fact they celebrate birthdays only when they are children.
The cake is a "must" and everybody sings "Happy Birthday" in the dark and blows the candles out on the cake.Presents are normally given at this time.The birthday child wears entirely new clothes to mark the occasion. As for food I think it's ordinary except cake, that as I have already mentioned is a "must" dish on the table.
