Adele hoped that Mr. Rochester would call her down to meet the guests when they all would arrive but in the end she got so tired that she fell asleep very early. Those were cheerful, busy days and the old hous had never seen so much life and activity. Mr. Rochester and Blanche always rode together. Observing them closely, I felt very sure that he would marry this fine lady very soon though it was obvious that he did not give her his heart... One day, I was told by the houskeeper that the master wanted me to bring Adele to introduce to the guests. "If he wants it, go, though it doesn't make me happy to meet so many new people", I thought.
