Everyone knows that fisherman always (exaggerate) about the size of the fish they catch - their fish is always the largest fish in the lake. Well, John Oakes, an amateur fisherman, didn't get the chance to boast about how big his fish was because, even though he had been fishing all day, he had failed (catch) even one.
As you can imagine, he (not feel) very happy about not catching anything. Feeling sorry for (he) because he woud have to go back to his wife with nothing for that night's supper, he started walking back to town. Just as he (pass) by the local fish shop, John got an idea. He walked into the shop and up to the counter. After greeting the shop assistant, he asked him if he had any nice trout for sale. When the assistant said he did, John said. 'That's great, would you mind throwing one to me?' The shop assistant looked at him strangely and asked John if he (heard) him correctly. John said that, yes, he had and went on to explain that he wanted the assistant to throw him the fish so that he (not lie) to his wife when she asked him whether he had caught a fish that day.
