(Guy Fawkes) — the head of the "gunpowder plot" . B. in 1570 ; was
from a noble family; served first in Flanders in the army of the Archduke,
then moved to England, where he became friends with Gatsby and Thomas Percy. Hiring in
may of 1604, a room near the houses of Parliament, F. with friends
began digging under the walls of Parliament. Fox, as the officer instructed
to prepare his regiment and to introduce him to London for the overthrow of the king in
appointed day. He was also charged with guarding the cellar with the gunpowder. When
the plot was opened, was executed (1605).
