I have a fairly small
family, actually, including me there are
only four people in my family and we love spending time all
together somewhere in the countryside. For example, in winter
the first choice for our family
is a ski holiday in the mountains.
This time we decided to go to Arkhyz, which is three hours' drive
from my home town to have a great
time. There we could enjoy
skiing activities, good food and
relaxation. By the way,
it wasn't the first time we had
been there. You know, my dad
and I have been skiers for about 5 years, but my younger brother
can't ski well because he has
only been a skier for two years.
As for my Mum, she can't ski at all, although this time she felt like
learning how to ski
but the problem was that she was very afraid of
getting injured on
an ice slope. Actually, she thinks that skiing is a
very high risk outdoor activity. But finally
she made up her mind
to give it a try
with a qualified ski instructor, called Tatyana,
that proved to be a
very experienced instructor. She
showed my Mum some
elementary skills for complete beginners
like turning, standing with your feet pointed
inward, stopping,
getting up after a
fall and getting started moving again. I wondered
how she had managed
to teach my Mum most of these skills in no
time, for only
about half an hour and after that she went down
the hill without
her guiding. Now I can say that almost all of us
are good at
skiing.
