the film march of the penguins tells the story of one of the most incredible journeys in the world. Every year in April , at the beginning of the Antarctic winter , thousands of emperor penguins walk 100 km from the sea to the place where their young are born. they travel across a region where no other wild creature can survive. the temperature is often -40° c and there are icy winds of 160 kph. at the end of their long journey, the penguins choose their partners , and in may the female produces one egg. then she goes back to the male looks after the egg. for two months he doesn`t eat , and he loses 50% of his weight. finally , the baby penguin is born and the female returns. the male then walks back to the sea to find food. As the baby gets older , both parents bring food for it , and in December it`s ready to survive on its own. the film was made by the french film director , luc jacquet , and his two cameramen. the film was first shown in France, then an English version was made. no one is sure why a documentary film about penguins was so successful, but it was a big hit all over the world.
