В косвенной речи нет двоеточий и запятых. и вспомогательные глаголы и модальные глаголы меняют свое время прыгая на один шаг назад.

например модальный глагол can в прошедшем времени будет could.
а вспомогательные глаголы.......... один шаг назад do будет did , am is are будет was were. have / has будет had., если did то один шаг назад и будет have/has v-ed ,v 3 form. (present perfect) и так далее. v-verb глагол.

да еще ...... иногда вместо запятой которую не ставят в косвенных предложениях можно использовать that но если не поставить это не считается ошибкой.
