The history of London is the largest city and the capital of great Britain — has, at least, the 1970s. According to legend, London was founded by Brutus the Trojan, and named Troia Nova (Latin for New Troy). Initially it was a small settlement with an area of about 0.8 km2. 100 year London became the capital of Britain in the second century and reached its heyday. After the departure of the Romans the city was abandoned and fell into disrepair. In the VI century around began to settle, the Saxons and by the end of the IX century the old centre of London began to recover. In later centuries, under changing rulers, London was the center of the territory, which was transformed in the UK.
London has grown strongly during the nineteenth century. During the Second world war the city suffered serious damage, after it, many historical areas have been replaced by a new one. Currently, London is one of the legal and economic centers of the world, there are headquarters of leading international companies.
