Škocjan system is one of the most famous in the world for the study of karst processes.
The Škocjan caves are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986, received the status of a regional park in 1996, the status of underground water bodies, protected by the Ramsar Convention in 1999 and is a karst biosphere reserve since 2004.
