Forty years ago, passenger ships sailed from Liverpool across the Atlantic Ocean to America. Today, people prefer to fly, but many visitors still come to Liverpool, because it is an interesting city.
Everybody knows that the Beatles, the sixties pop group, were born here and tourists can visit the places they sang about, for example Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. Their school, the Liverpool Institute, has become a college for actors, singers and dancers.
The people of Liverpool are warm and friendly and this makes it a good place for students. There are two universities, several theatres and concert halls and the best disco in the country. Liverpool also has two top football clubs. During the winter, football lovers can watch a good match in the city every weekend.
