For russian people red color has such associations as - love, fire, war, passion, etc.
In history red color was a color of revolution."The red"- it was the name of communists.
Also red color is used in many phraseologies, for example: "THE RED CALENDAR'S DAY"( красный день календаря, means "holiday" or "an important day"), "THE RED GIRL"( красна девица,which means "a beautiful pretty girl") and so on.
And I want to tell you what red color means on the Russian flag: it means energy, brave, force, blood.
