"Is everything all right?"
"Mrs Troy has gone."
"Where?"
"She (did not say). I (helped) her down with the bags. Oh, and
she (left) you this,"" The housekeeper gave her a letter.
"Darling, I (am) sorry not to be here to say goodbye but I (am) sure you will be quite pleased to have me gone out of your house at
last. What an angel you (are). I can never thank you or Jan
enough. I (have left) a little present to Jan. Let's meet soon and I'll tell
you all about everything. All love. Virginia."
"Did she ( leave) anything else, Mrs Bristow?"
"Just two books. They (are) upstairs."
"Mrs Troy (left) no address?"
"She (has not gone) far. I (did not catch) what she (said) to the
taxi-driver but it (was not ) a railway station."
The mystery was soon solved... Jan ( telephoned). "Good
news," he said. "We (have got) rid of Virginia"
"I know."
"For good. She (is) a sensible woman. She has just done what
I said she should—she (has found) a husband.'"
