Hello Miki,
I have just read your letter and I can honestly say that the situation you had decribed is familiar to me. So, you shouldn`t looking for anyone to give you a proper advice.
Firstly, you have to quit thinking that somebody is going to make fun of you if you make some mistakes speaking to them in English ; conversely, people love to correct foreigners trying to speak their native language, so don`t be shy or unassured to get the ball rolling, - just start talking to them !
Secondly, you ought to make at least one English-speaking friend who shares your interests in art, sports, political issues, etc. Believe to my own experience dear Miki, - it is not as hard to do as you think. Just go outside, find a person sitting alone on the bench, have a seat beside him (or her) and start talking. Even if you fail for the first time, don`t give up and make another attempt. I am sure - you will get acquainted with somebody special in a short while. Ok, it is time for me to set off for work. Write me back Miki, don`t forget your old friends.
Rafael
