СThe Scout movement is a world-wide children's and youth organization that deals with the integrated development of youth: in the physical, spiritual and mental planes. The word "scout" is English and translated as "scout".
Historical reference
The movement originated in England in 1907, its founder was Robert Baden-Powell. He personally engaged in the registration of the first scout camp in 1907, and in 1908 he published his book "Scouting for Boys", which gained world fame.
In the US, the scouting movement fell due to William Boyes. He came to London in 1909 on business. Having lost his way on the streets of London, the businessman asked the way to the boy. The child readily explained how to find the right address, and personally conducted the businessman to the place. He refused the money, proudly saying that he was a boy scout, and helping people is his duty.
Boyce became interested in scouts and began to actively study their history, ideas, regulations. The children's organization conquered the businessman, and, returning to America, he founded the scouting movement on February 8, 1910.
Initially, the organization consisted only of boys, Boy Scouts, but in 1950 Scouts also began to accept girls, the Girl Scouts.
Scouting
The organization has a clear hierarchy, a system of awards and distinctions. A scout can become any child from 6 to 18 years old, regardless of nationality, wealth, health or education.
The main goal of the Scout movement is the education in children of patriotism, civic responsibility, organization, character and self-confidence. In addition to the general ideas and principles of scouts, practical survival skills are taught: orientation in the forest, ways of mining fire, swimming, climbing. For girls, emphasis is placed on strengthening women's social importance.
Scout organization is created on a voluntary basis and depends on membership fees, donations and sponsorship.
In the organization, to the smallest detail, all possible attributes of scouting are thought through.
The motto "Be ready!" Invented himself Baden-Powell. The founder of the movement took the phrase from his patriotic article about the Boy Scouts. The whole slogan sounded like "be ready to die for your homeland ... leaving home, do not think whether you will return alive."
Entering the ranks of scouts, each child swears an oath based on 3 principles: to fulfill his duty to God, the Motherland and his neighbors, himself.
To educate youth in the spirit of scouting, use a special method:
Each scout voluntarily promises to fulfill an oath.
All scouts are divided into small groups, patrols. Each patrol has a pennant and a cry.
All programs, projects, games are aimed at developing civil responsibility, debt, spiritual and personal growth of children.
Regular active activities in nature, primarily in scouting camps.
Strong traditions that arose during the creation of the organization.
Practical training and application of skills in life.
Constant guidance and assistance from adults. Many employees of the organization work at no cost.
