April 12 is the Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics. On this day in 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin flew for the first time round the planet Earth in the orbital spacecraft Vostok. The flight, which the world watched with admiration, lasted 108 minutes.
This year, 52 years have passed since the day the man conkered outer space. The flight accomplished by Yuri Gagarin literally boggled the minds of people not only in our country, but all over the planet. It paved the way to further space exploration. The first flight was the most difficult and dangerous, but the desire to conquer space is stronger than any obstacles. After Yuri Gagarin, there were other cosmonauts who continued his case and paved the road to space for their followers, at the cost of their lives. Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics is a pleasant event to all of us. And the name of Yuri Gagarin makes our hearts proud of his brave deed. We will never forget April 12, 1961.
