The city of Surgut is one of the oldest Siberian cities. Founded by the order of Tsar Fedor Ioannovich, given February 19, 1594 voevode to Prince Fyodor Boryatinsky and the written head of Vladimir Onichkov. The city was founded near the Ostyak fortress of Prince Bardak (Borodok). Surgut was "founded by 3 people": a voivode, a merchant and a hunter. Today, on the central street of the city stands a monument to the founders of the city, in which, in addition to the voivode, the merchant and the Cossack, there is also the fourth figure - the priest is a fictitious figure.
Surgut at the end of the XVI century was a small fortress with two gates, four deaf ones and one traffic tower. In 1596 the Gostiny Dvor was built. At the end of the XVI century - a small fortress. In the XVII-XVIII centuries - one of the centers of Russian development of Siberia.
By the middle of XVII the history of Surgut begins to play with new colors. After all, it became one of the largest trading cities. In 1708, Peter I issued a decree, according to which, Surgut became part of the Siberian province. In 80 years, he was referred to the Tobolsk viceroyalty, and became its center.
