What healthy eating really means
We all need certain elements in our food so we can stay healthy. These are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fiber, minerals, and vitamins and of course, water. Basic elements should be present in all diets. Carbohydrates provide your body with energy and can be called “the body’s fuel”. This fuel is converted into heat. If the body doesn’t get enough carbohydrates it will automatically switch to using protein as fuel, it is bad because protein is used to build and repair body’s tissue.
Ideally, over half your food intake should be carbohydrates.
Fiber too, is an important element in your diet because it adds bulk to food, helping digestion giving you a feeling of fullness. Some of the best sources of fiber are whole grain or slightly milled cereals.
