The main character of this
movie is Jerry Maguire. He was dismissed from the office for his criticism of
the boss. Soon he decided to set up his own business firm. Only two people
believed in him – Dorothy, who fell in love with Jerry, and Rod Tidwell, a
talented sportsman, but an impudent and spiteful man. Rod agreed that sports
agent Jerry Maguire represented his interests. Dorothy decided to leave the
successful agent office. She wanted to help Jerry to found his own business.
Jerry concentrated all his efforts on Rod, his only client,
who turned out to be a very difficult client to satisfy. Over the next several
months, the two direct harsh criticisms towards each other with Tidwell
claiming that Jerry wasn’t trying hard enough to get him a contract while Jerry
claimed that Tidwell wasn’t proving himself to deserve the money for which he
asked. In the process of trying to succeed financially in his new enterprise,
Jerry dumped his fiancée, Avely, and entered into a marriage of convenience
with Dorothy.
After a Cardinals game in which Tidwell played well and
almost received a serious injury, Jerry and Rod got renewed confidence for a
lucrative contract for a Rod. After months of harsh words and criticism
directed towards one another, the two embraced in front of other athletes and
sports agents and showed how their relationship had progressed from a strictly
business one to a close personal one, which was one of the points Jerry made in
his mission statement. Then Jerry flew back home to seek out Dorothy and told
her that he loved her and wanted her in his life. Rod Tidwell later appeared on
a sports show for an interview. Jerry had secured him a 11.2 million dollars
contract with the Cardinals that will allow him to finish his pro football
career in Arizona.
The visibly emotional Tidwell proceeded to thank everyone who helped accomplish
that success and extend warm gratitude to Jerry for his help. Jerry spoke with
several other pro athletes, some of whom had read his earlier mission statement
and express their positive opinion of it as well as respect for the work he had
done with Tidwell.
