Buddhism, penetrated into Tibet in the 7th century, by the 14th century it was transformed there into Lamaism, formed on the basis of Mahayana.
The founder of Lamaism is the Tszonkabu (1357-1419).
In the XVI century, Lamaism began to spread in Mongolia, and in the XVII-XVIII centuries it penetrated into the territory of Russia - in Buryatia, Tuva and Kalmykia, where it still exists.
Lamaist ritual includes worship services and other religious ceremonies. The main centers of cult activity in Lamaism are monasteries (datsans).
Lamaism provides for the worship of not only Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Hubilgan and other deities, but also the spirits of the mountains. A number of animals are deified.
