The Gift to Stalin was filmed in 2008, it depicts the atrocities committed by the Soviet regime, particularly during the Stalin era in graphic detail.
It is a dramatic film, about a jewish boy who got deported to Kazakhstan and saved and adopted by Kasym, an old Kazakh railway-man. Kasym gives him a Kazakh name, Sabyr, that in Kazakh language means humble.
This film is not made on a book, it is made from actual events that happened during the soviet era. It is set in Kazakhstan, south of Kurchatov.
All in all this film shows the real Soviet regime that used to be, dramatic end is also included.
