Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan. The city was founded more than 1000 years ago. According to the old legend - it was built by the Ancient Bulgars on the shore of Lake Kaban in the form of defense from ill-wishers. The name of the city arose from the word "Kazan" - translated from Tatar means "Kotel"
Kazan is located on the left bank of the Volga, at the confluence of the Kazanka river. The Kazanka River flows from the north-east to the west through the middle of the city and divides Kazan into two commensurate parts on the territory - the historical south of the river and the newer north to the north.
