When he was a child, Abraham loved reading and learning new things. When Abraham was 2)19 , he left the farm. He worked during the day and studied in his free time. In 3)1836 , he became a lawyer and was soon famous for his honesty and courage. At 4)the age of 52 , he was elected the 16th President of the United States of America.
While he was president, the guided his country throught the American Civil War and stopped slavery. As he promised, "... this nation ... shall have a new birth of freedom; - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." 5) on 14th April , 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot him while he was at a theatre. He died 6)the next day.
Abraham Lincoln was more than just a great leader and a great speaker. He wanted to make life better for everyone. His statue sits in the Lincoln Memorial and, 7) to this day, people visit it to admire 'Honest Abe'
