Halloween is a festival that takes place on October 31. In the United States children wear costumes and masks and go trick-or-treating. Many of them carve jack-o'-lantens out of pumpkins. Fortunetelling and storytelling about ghosts and witches are popular activities. People once believed that there were many ghosts and witches on the Earth and that they met on October 31 to worship the devil.

It occurs on January, 13 which is the first of the year according to the Julian Calendar. New Year holidays in Russia last for 10 calendar days. Currently the New Year is a bigger holiday than Christmas in Russia. Russian Christmas comes 2 weeks later than in other countries,on January 7.
