Being impressed by the film of the same name, I wanted to read the source. I was already familiar with Fitzgerald from his book the Great Gatsby, which I was not happy about. Now I'm starting to think it's not my author. Can ever read it is something to him more, but not in the near future for sure.
The whole story is tied to the fact that a child is born in the family alone, but it is not so ordinary. It is not clear whether a miracle or a curse, but the kid looks like an old man. All his skin is covered with wrinkles, and a complete set of senile diseases. The mother dies in childbirth, and his father is unable to keep such a "vile" form of the son, and decides to throw it to other people. He hardly realized what was happening, and with some deviation from the norm against their faced newborn. But as the years passed, the boy grew up, and to everyone's surprise younger.
