In the south of Kazakhstan there is a beautiful mountain lake, Kaindy Lake. It was formed after an earthquake in 1911, which caused a landslide creating a natural dam. Then rainwater filled the valley and created the lake.
Lake Kaindy is about 400 meters long and more than 20 meters deep. Because of limestone deposits, the water has a bluish-green colour. The lake is well known for its scenery, particularly its trunks of trees that rise above the surface of the lake.
In recent years Lake Kaindy has become a popular international tourist destination. You can go ice diving and trout fishing there.
