In 1985,
Joe Simpson and Simon Yates a 21000-foot peak in the Peruvian Andes. It was a
challenge for the young men.
Joe and
Simon reached the summit without any problems. When they were descending
Joe
slipped and broke his leg. He was unable to go on. So Simon began lowering his
friend down the mountain.
After one
particular drop Simon got no sound back from Joe. Without knowing it, Simon had
lowered his friend over the edge of a deep crevasse. Simon held on to the rope
for over an hour. He felt himself being pulled down towards the edge of the
crevasse.
Simon
decided to save his own life. He cut the rope that tied him to his friend. But
Joe was badly injured and he had no food or water. Joe’s great courage and
determination saved him.
