1 Ukraine is a parliamentary-presidential republic. The people are the only source of power in Ukraine.
2The power in Ukraine is carried out according to the principle of its division into legislative, executive and judicial.
The executive power in the country belongs to the Cabinet of Ministers, and the legislative power - to the parliament (the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine). The supreme body of the judiciary in Ukraine is the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
3 The president is elected for a five-year term. The Verkhovna Rada members are also elected for a five-year term.
4 The President of Ukraine is the head of the executive authority.
5 At parliamentary sittings the members of the Verkhovna Rada discuss domestic and foreign policy, introduce amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, adopt laws, approve the state budget, designate elections for the President of Ukraine, appoint the Prime Minister of Ukraine, etc.
6 According to the Constitution of Ukraine there are three national Ukrainian symbols: the State Flag, the National State Emblem, the National Anthem.
