Judy garland (real name Frances Ethel Gumm) was born on June 10, 1922 in Minnesota. Her parents were vaudeville actors, and at the age of 2, the girl began performing on stage. Judy's mother was obsessed with making her daughters stars, and she took the girls to all sorts of auditions and auditions.

In 1935, 12-year-old Judy signed a contract with the film Studio "MGM". Working at this Studio brought Judy worldwide fame and fortune, but at the same time crippled her psyche and life.

From the very beginning, the producers began to strictly control the weight of the girl and almost starved her. The Studio management closely monitored the diet of the young actress: sometimes a plate of food was taken from her right under her nose. In addition, the girl had to endure insults; she was called "little fat pig" and "ugly duckling". The lack of confidence in her attractiveness haunted her for the rest of her life.

To keep Judy fit and active despite her constant hunger, they gave her pills. Then she had to shoot for 18 hours a day, 6 days a week. To keep her productive, she was given amphetamines. These drugs made Judy overactive, and she had to take sleeping pills to get to sleep. At that time, maintaining the performance of child actors with the help of drugs was commonplace. Not only did garland go through this, but so did Mickey Rooney and Elizabeth Taylor.

Judy later spoke about her work with Rooney:

They made us work day and night. They gave us pills to keep us on our feet... Then we were drugged with sleeping pills. After four hours, we were woken up, fed stimulating drugs — and we were again sent to shoot 72 hours in a row...

During the filming of the Wizard of Oz, Judy was already heavily "sitting" on pills and to suppress her appetite, she smoked several dozen cigarettes a day, and she was only 16 years old! For the Studio, it was just a mechanism that could be regulated with drugs.

In addition, during filming, Judy had to endure sexual harassment from actors playing the roles of midget Munchkins from the Blue country. These dwarfs often put their hands under her skirt, which led the girl to despair.

All these events influenced the future of Judy. She became emotionally unstable: from unrestrained fun easily passed to severe depression and several times tried to commit suicide.

But the worst thing is that for the rest of her life, Judy garland remained dependent on pills. She could only enter the workflow and make movies under the influence of drugs. No methods helped the actress to get rid of addiction, and for more than 30 years, almost two-thirds of her life, she was in a drug captivity. Never getting out of this captivity, she managed to get married 5 times and give birth to three children (one of them Liza Minnelli), who, as you can guess, did not have the happiest childhood.
