The electronics revolution of the 1970s and 1980s set the trend towards integratingelectronic devices on a single tiny chip of silicon or some other semiconductive material. Thecomplex task of manufacturing these chips uses the most advanced technology, includingcomputers, electron-beam lithography, micro-manipulators, ion-beam implantation, andultraclean environments.
