From: Sally Benson Subject: Burns night supper Hi Sue, Sorry I (not/write) sooner but I (be) busy with my cousins in Scotland. How are things there? What (you/be) up to recently? It’s really great here. I (just/come) from a Burns night supper. They (celebrate) the work of this famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns, for over two centuries. They (serve) cock-a-leekie soup which is made with chicken and potatoes. Then, while serving the main dish, haggis, pipers (play) the bagpipes and the cook (put) the haggis on the host’s table. Sorry, I haven't written sooner but I've been busy with my cousins in Scotland. (Present Perfect указывает на действия, происходившие до момента написания письма) How are things there? What have you been up to recently? (см. объяснение выше)

I've just come from a Burns Night supper (Present Perfect - только что выполненное действие). People have been celebrating the work of this famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns, for over two centuries (Present Perfect Continuous для описания действия в процессе, которое происходило и продолжает происходить уже какое-то время). They serve cock-a-leekie soup which is made with chicken and leeks (здесь и далее Present Simple используется для обозначения регулярного действия, описания традиции). Then, while serving the main dish, haggis, pipers play the bagpipes and the cook puts the haggis on the host's table. They finish the night with some poetry.

I have to go now. I've been surfing the Net for the past 2 hours (Present Perfect Continuous - действие началось в прошлом и длится указанное время) and my cousin is still waiting for me to get ready to go shopping (Present Continuous показывает действие в процессе - оно происходит в момент написания письма)
