Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova is a retired Soviet cosmonaut and engineer, and the first woman who was in space. She was born in 1937 in the village Maslennikovo. Her space flight has made in June 16, 1963 aboard the spacecraft Vostok-6, he continued for almost three days.
Tereshkova studied at the Zhukovsky Air Force Academy and graduated with distinction as a cosmonaut engineer. In 1977 she earned a doctorate in engineering.
