The Kangaroo is an Australian animal. It has a large and muscular hind legs adapted for jumping, long strong tail for balance, and a small head. They can jump at a speed of 70 km/h over short distances, but usually move with the comfortable for them speed at 20 km/h. Jumping as a fast and economical way to travel developed due to the fact that kangaroos are forced to travel long distances in search of food and water. Kangaroos live about 9-18 years, and some individuals live up to 30 years. Kangaroos are marsupial, like most of their Australian neighbours. Babies Kangaroo remain in the bag about 9 months before starting to occasionally go outside. Kangaroos eat grass, plants, nuts, berries and insects. They can swim but they cannot walk backwards. It's interesting to note that there are more kangaroos in Australia than humans. Wild kangaroos are afraid of people, and will not allow to come close to them. But the most friendly kangaroos can be found in the special wildlife sanctuaries.
