For apes have larger (compared to the monkeys) body, no tail, cheek pouches and ischial callosities (from gibbons they are, but small). Apes peculiar fundamentally different way to get around the trees, instead of running through the branches on all fours, they mostly move on hands, under the branches. This method of travel is called brachiation; adaptation to it caused a number of anatomical changes: more flexible and long arms, moving the shoulder joint, flattened in the anteroposterior direction of the chest.
