1. I was five years old. I went to the railway station
with my mum. I got on the train with all the other people. 1 had a suitcase in
one hand and a doll in the other.
3. Many people think that the idea of take-away meals
come from the USA. But it came from Britain. The original British take-away
meals were fish and cheese.

have telephones everywhere: in a house, in an office, in a car. You can see people
walking round the streets with telephones.
4. Britain forms a greater part of the British Isles,
which lie off the north-west coast of Europe. The full name for Britain is the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, while "Great
Britain" comprises England, Wales and Scotland. Thanks to the influence of
the Gulf Stream, the climate in Great Britain is generally mild. Britain became
the world's first industrialised country in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
Now Britain is the fifth largest trading nation. English is the main language
spoken in Britain.

1. On Saturday we will go to a football match at the
stadium in the centre of the city. There will be a lot of people at the
stadium. They will come because it will be the most important match of the year.
At two o'clock the teams will come on to the field and the match will begin.
2. The famous
Italian sculptor, Michelangelo, lived in Florence. Once the governor of the
city asked Michelangelo to make a statue. The sculptor worked for two years and
he made the statue beautiful. When the statue was ready, a lot of people came
to the square where it stood. The governor didn't like the sculptor's work
because the statue's nose was long. He asked Michelangelo to make the statue's
nose shorter. But the sculptor did not do anything to the statue, which is
called David. David is one of the best Michelangelo's works.
3. Australia is
the fifth continent. It is the smallest continent and the largest island on the
map. Australia is an English-speaking country.
4. When you
look at the sky in the morning or in the afternoon, you can see the Sun. The
Sun is a great ball of hot gases. The Earth is a planet which moves round the
Sun.
5. Ruduar Kipling, a famous English writer, was born
in India. His parents were English. His father was a professor and a painter.
He spent his early years in India. When he was six, parents sent the boy to England
where he went to school. He came back to India at the age of seventeen. Kipling
travelled a lot and wrote a lot of stories.
